Which Arm Should You Hit The Golf Ball With?

Aug 22, 2023

In this blog post, we will be discussing the concept of hitting the golf ball with your arms. Many golfers wonder which arm they should be using to hit the ball, but the truth is, you shouldn't be hitting the ball with your arms at all.

There are various theories out there regarding which arm to use. Some suggest using the forward arm, while others compare it to skipping a rock with your back hand. While these theories may have some merit in terms of getting a feel for your swing, they are not effective when it comes to actually hitting the ball.

Hitting the ball with your arms will only result in twisting the clubface and hitting the ball sideways. I have personally tried both of these methods and found that they did not work for me. Instead, I turned off my arms completely and focused on simplifying my arm unit.

The arm unit consists of your arms, wrists, and the golf club. Instead of using your arms to hit the ball, focus on hinging and re-hinging your arm unit. This motion should be loose, with relaxed wrists. By mastering this motion, you can eliminate any slice spin on your ball.

Once you have achieved this, you can stop thinking about your arms and start focusing on your body. During your setup, relax your arms and let the club go wherever it wants to go. The key is to get your arm unit working properly before shifting your focus to your body.

To achieve this, start by shaking out your arms and waggling the club to keep your wrists loose. Then, switch your focus to your shoulder and crank it until it goes behind the ball. This will help you set up your arms at the top of your swing. From there, focus on your lower body and let the club go wherever it wants to go.

Remember, the goal is to eliminate any slice spin on your ball. Once you have achieved this, you can start thinking about coiling and uncoiling your body during your swing. Let your arms go along for the ride and you will see a significant improvement in your shots.

In conclusion, hitting the golf ball with your arms is not an effective technique. Instead, focus on hinging and re-hinging your arm unit to eliminate any slice spin. Once you have achieved this, shift your focus to your body and let your arms go along for the ride. By following these tips, you can improve your swing and hit the ball straighter.
